OCH Round Table Part #2

During our roundtable conversation, Eli asked small business owners what they’d like to see in Old City Hall. On the surface, this might seem like a simple question.

However, at its heart lies an important conversation around what kinds of spaces are important to community members and how Old City Hall can fill those needs.

Daz (eTc Tacoma) brought up some really inventive ideas about how OCH could function as a place for unique dining experiences. He’s right— Old City Hall should be a place where people can feel connected to their city and the fabric of its history while enjoying the vibrance (and incredible food!) of Tacoma today.

This resonates with Ryan’s (Sunny’s) perspective as well. He is passionate about preserving the historical architecture of Tacoma, as reminders of the past are important to creating a sense of place within our cities. We agree that restoring and preserving beloved, historical buildings keeps communities connected through shared spaces.

Dion (D Haberdashery) is excited to see new life in Downtown, especially through the businesses, apartments, offices, and event space that will soon be housed in Old City Hall. There is a diverse juxtaposition of businesses downtown—some generations old, some opened just yesterday—which creates a truly vibrant and interesting place to be. We believe that it takes all types, especially when tasked with creating neighborhoods that will last decades into the future. Through the Old City Hall project, we hope to equip entrepreneurs and community members to build the future of Tacoma through their presence downtown.
